A Note From Our President
Happy September!
Hopefully all of you have been enjoying your summer and all of the blooms in your gardens. I know that I have a couple of new favorites this year, Jennie being one of them and one of my own seedlings being another. It’s about this time of year when I start to think about saving seeds and trying my hand at hybridizing new varieties and I’d love to encourage you to do the same.
We have a few hybridizers within the DSO that are always willing to give advice to those willing to learn, and I thought I’d share a couple other resources with you that could help you try your hand at hybridizing.

There are still a couple of shows coming up and I’m hoping that we’ll see you at those. The DSO show, which is 9/21-9/22 and the DSO member show which is 10/5-10/6, both of which are so much fun and a great opportunity for you to start making your list of new dahlias for next year.

DSO Summit Mall
The 93rd DSO Dahlia Show will be held at Summit Mall in Akron OH, September 20-22, 2024.
Setup for the show will be at 6pm Friday 9/20 (note - this is earlier than previous years). Judging will be on Saturday morning, 9/21 at 10am.

The show will open to the public Saturday 9/21 at 1pm until the mall closes and Sunday 9/22 from opening until close.
Teardown will be on Sunday at 5pm.
Midwest Show
As a member of the Dahlia Society of Ohio, you’re also part of the Midwest Dahlia Conference which includes societies from Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Kansas, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ontario and Pennsylvania.
The conference holds an annual show which is in Shipshewana, IN this year on 9/13-9/15.
